In June 2026, the design and construction of the Palma seafront promenade redevelopment project received a new award, adding to that received in 2025 at the World Design Awards, presented by The Architecture Community (TAC). TYPSA was involved in its design, in collaboration with a Barcelona-based architectural practice, as well as providing construction supervision services to the project management team.
In this instance, the award is the prestigious FAD Architecture and Interior Design Awards, in the City and Landscape category, where the jury described it as an exquisite, multidisciplinary design, rooted in Mediterranean tradition, aimed at reclaiming public space along an urban seafront previously dominated by traffic.
The collaboration of various disciplines, including landscape architecture, traffic engineering, urban infrastructure, town planning and architecture, ensures solutions that pay particular attention to pedestrians, longitudinal and transversal connectivity, vegetation, lighting and the quality of material design.
The project promotes slow mobility for pedestrians and cyclists, public transport, and viewing and play areas. Its objectives are social and ecological, and form part of the recent European tradition of reducing CO₂ emissions, improving the urban microclimate and ensuring universal accessibility.
The project, commissioned by the Balearic Islands Port Authority, has completely transformed Palma’s seafront promenade into a new urban space where the city meets the sea, reclaiming for the public a waterfront that had previously been dominated by road traffic and reinforcing its value as a public space.
At the ceremony held at the DHub in Barcelona, the award was collected by our colleagues Jordi Pradas, who co-contributed to the design, and Enrique Pérez, who provided construction supervision services.
