TYPSA committed to sustainable infrastructure

One of the pillars of TYPSA‘s Sustainability Plan is training and certifying employees in international sustainability standards. The objective is to expand the knowledge and application of sustainability criteria in infrastructure design, to strengthen internal capacities in the analysis of climate vulnerability and in the development of adaptation and resilience plans, and to support clients in the certification process. In 2024, 65 professionals from the Group were accredited with sustainability certifications.

One of the most internationally recognised certifications for infrastructure is Envision, issued by the Institute for Sustainable Infrastructure (ISI), based in Washington D.C. TYPSA has been a member of the ISI since 2022 and has 22 people certified as sustainability professionals by Envision (ENV SP). The system focuses on 5 categories: quality of life, leadership, resource allocation, natural environment and climate, and resilience.

In 2025, TYPSA has successfully led the Envision certification process for the Xochi, Corredor de las Flores road project in Guatemala, the first infrastructure project in Latin America to obtain this qualification. The 31 km road provides an alternative route for those travelling outside the department of Suchitepéquez, avoiding urban centres and offering intermediate exits to improve local mobility. Once built, travel time will be reduced from over 3 hours to just 25 minutes for the expected 22,000+ daily travellers.

Xochi, Corredor de las Flores, is the first infrastructure project in the country to consider a prospective analysis of exposure and climate vulnerability in its planning, design and capital investment plan, and obtaining this certification has been one of the requirements for accessing funding from the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB).

The UN Global Compact in Spain has echoed this achievement, recognising it as a good business practice in SDGs. It is TYPSA’s twenty-first good business practice in SDGs, and it underscores the Group’s drive for training and its ability to support public and private organisations in obtaining sustainability certifications. It also reinforces TYPSA’s leadership in climate vulnerability analysis in the planning, design and infrastructure investment phases.
