TYPSA begins Project Management of the IFMIF-DONES construction works, a scientific facility unique in Spain for the development of fusion energy

TYPSA has commenced Project Management services for the IFMIF-DONES (International Fusion Materials Irradiation Facility – DEMO Oriented Neutron Source) construction works, a scientific facility that is unique in Spain and one of the most significant in the world in the field of fusion energy.

The contract officially commenced on 24 July with the kick-off meeting held at the Palacio de Quinta Alegre, the institutional headquarters of the IFMIF-DONES Spain Consortium, marking the start of the construction phase of this facility in Escúzar (Granada).

As Project Manager, TYPSA will be responsible for supervising the execution of the works, ensuring compliance with the technical, quality, safety, sustainability and planning requirements established for a project of this complexity.

To carry out the contract, TYPSA will be working in collaboration with the international group Egis, whose expertise in fusion energy infrastructure will bring significant added value to the team.

Recognised by the European Strategy Forum on Research Infrastructures (ESFRI) as a strategic research infrastructure, IFMIF-DONES is a facility designed to test and validate the materials to be used in future fusion reaction tanks, by replicating the extreme conditions to which they will be subjected inside these tanks. The facility will feature a powerful particle accelerator and various scientific and ancillary buildings, complementing major international projects such as ITER by focusing on materials qualification, an essential aspect for the safe and efficient design of future fusion reactors.

TYPSA’s involvement in this project reinforces its expertise in the management and supervision of highly complex scientific and technological infrastructures, as well as its commitment to developing initiatives that contribute to the advancement of science, innovation and the energy transition.
