Protection of watercourses against extreme weather phenomena in Peru

Authority for Reconstruction with Changes (ARCC)

Key facts

Damage reconstruction and protection measures implemented along sections of the rivers Casma (77 km), Huarmey (50 km), Canete (31 km) and Huaura (18 km). Defence structures include riprap, gabion walls, riverbank reforestation and other protection systems, designed for return periods between 50 and 200 years, depending on rural or urban location. In addition, associated public spaces (viewpoints, riparian woodland) are being created as well as solutions to provide connectivity with neighbouring urban areas, landscapes and archaeological sites.
