Key facts

Cut-and-cover section 1800 m long under the River Rimac riverbed, comprising a double concrete-box 27 m wide and 7 m high. The tunnel crosses under the Trujillo bridge, a 17th-century masonry arch structure, where heavy lifting hydraulic jacks up to 7.000 tons were used for shoring and temporary containment.

Construction method: excavation with slope containment and bottom-up construction of the structure.

Geology: Lima gravel.
