Driving economic development in Ghana

The Ashanti region, located in southern Ghana, is home to Kumasi, its capital and most populous city with 3.5 million inhabitants. The Greater Kumasi region is strategically important for country´s development, serving as a connecting hub for 7 of the 16 regions and is situated in a transit corridor used by 4 landlocked Sahelian countries: Burkina Faso, Mali, Niger and Chad. In addition, it is the second-largest economy in the region with strong economic ties with Europe, Asia, North America and other African countries.

In order to drive economic development, the Government of Ghana, with financing from the World Bank, has undertaken the Ghana Economic Transformation Project (GET Project), which includes the development of the Greater Kumasi Industrial City (GKIC), divided into three locations with a total of 2,000 ha, including infrastructure such as a dry port and an area for urban development of approximately 1,380 ha. 

Among the planned infrastructure developments are 5 km of road network, drinking water supply to a reservoir with a capacity of 10,000 m³/day, 3,000 m of water supply pipelines, 5 km of overhead power lines, 6 transformers at selected locations, safety and fire protection facilities, access control and aerial surveillance, and establishment of a temporary office. 

TYPSA´s mission is to assist the GET project management, in design management of the mentioned external infrastructures, including the review of the architectural and engineering projects carried out by the contractor (EPC), supervising construction works, quality assurance, compliance with environmental regulations, financial control, acceptance of works, training programme, communication campaign, and inspection during the warranty period.
