Associations and institutional presence
The TYPSA group and education
TYPSA Group’s active commitment to the profession and to the future has led to a strong relationship with technical departments at Spain’s top universities. The company participates in teaching activities as well as student orientation programmes to raise awareness of the consulting engineering profession. Many members of TYPSA Group’s staff are involved, giving their time to lecture at national and international universities.

A good example of our co-operation with academia is the agreement signed with the ETSCICCP-UPM civil engineering school in Madrid, to set up the “TYPSA – PABLO BUENO HARBOUR RESEARCH UNIT” for advancing knowledge and research in Maritime Engineering, Ports and Coasts and Marine Energy.

TYPSA Foundation for cooperation

TYPSA created the Fundación TYPSA para la Cooperación (TYPSA Foundation for Development) in support of its Corporate Social Responsibility commitment, in October 2008. The Foundation was registered as a Charity in the Ministry of Culture (Official Spanish Gazette, 16/12/2008) and is registered as a Non-Governmental Development Organization (NGDO) at the Spanish Agency for International Cooperation for Development (AECID). The Foundation was created to contribute to the improvement of living conditions in disadvantaged communities by providing resources to help people create the capacity to develop on their own. The TYPSA Foundation’s main source of income comes from TYPSA Group, in the form of monetary contributions and donations in kind that together amount to 0.7% of the company profit, while to a lesser extent, donations from TYPSA Group employees and other institutions provide further support.
Lake Albert University (UNILAC) educational project in Mahagi, in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, is the Foundation’s main focus. The Foundation has financed the construction of the University facilities and is now concentrating on helping to develop the quality of teaching at the Faculties of Civil and Agricultural Engineering. In addition, the Foundation allocates aid to the educational project in Garissa, Kenya, to build a school for secondary education teacher training, and to the design and construction supervision of a photovoltaic plant for Mwanzugi hospital in Tanzania.

Fidex, forum for engineering excellence

TYPSA formed the Foro Ingeniería de Excelencia (FIDEX, Forum for Engineering Excellence) together with ten major consulting engineering firms in January 2012. The association was born out of the founders’ common concern for the situation of the engineering sector in general, and in particular of the civil engineering sector. Thus the founding firms decided to join forces in the pursuit of quality in professional engineering services with a shared vision to address the imperative need to achieve excellence in planning, studies, projects and design, construction supervision and management of the operation and maintenance of infrastructure.
FIDEX seeks to promote professional engineering services piloted and controlled by multi-disciplinary, solvent and experienced teams who have the technical ability to guarantee an optimum return on investment and the ambition to achieve the highest quality in a spirit of public service, receiving the appropriate remuneration for the work done.
The forum specifically aims to foster quality in engineering, to foment innovation in management techniques and models and to promote social responsibility and sustainability of infrastructure. FIDEX will inform public opinion of the technical advances in the sector and support government agencies to improve the quality and efficiency of infrastructure. At the forefront of the internationalization of Spanish engineering, FIDEX will help to publicize Marca España (Spain Brand) as well as work to defend competition on equal terms against large multinational engineering firms in the international market.
