TYPSA has played a prominent role at two key events in the port sector: the 18th Spanish Conference on Coastal and Port Engineering, held in Punta Umbría, Huelva, and the Conference on Transport Infrastructure and Urban Mobility in Uruguay, organised by ICEX in Montevideo.
Four presentations at the Coastal and Port Engineering Conference in Punta Umbría
May 2026 saw the highly successful conclusion of the Coastal and Port Conference, one of the leading events in the coastal and port engineering sector in Spain, bringing together more than 500 specialist professionals. TYPSA was present with a strong technical delegation, delivering four wide-ranging presentations that received numerous compliments from the audience and the sector’s most prominent figures.
Virginia Martín París presented the Kalundu Port rehabilitation project on Lake Tanganyika, an innovative initiative aimed at addressing the effects of climate change on port infrastructure in lake environments in East Africa. From the Valencia regional office, Raquel Loza Remón and Aina Berta Hernández Mascarell outlined the monitoring work carried out on the regeneration of the beaches at El Saler and La Garrofera, a key project for the sustainable management of the Valencian coastline. For his part, Néstor Urrutxua, from TYPSA Euskadi, discussed the rehabilitation works on the protective elements of the Botafoc breakwater’s foundations in the Port of Ibiza, a technically highly complex project involving a strategic piece of infrastructure in the Mediterranean. Pablo Rodríguez Palmeiro, from TYPSA Madrid, brought TYPSA’s session to a close with a presentation on the design of wave pools for surfing using Wavegarden technology, an advanced engineering proposal in which TYPSA is becoming a global benchmark.
In June, TYPSA once again took part in a leading international forum: the Transport and Urban Mobility Infrastructure Conference in Uruguay 2026, organised by ICEX Spain in Montevideo. On this occasion, David López Rivas, director of the Port and Coastal Engineering, took part in a round-table discussion on Spain’s experiences in rail-port integration and its applicability to the ambitious logistics project currently being developed by Uruguay.
With the Central Railway now operational, the Railway Master Plan underway and the EU–Mercosur agreement in force, the debate came at a particularly opportune moment for the country, which is promoting a model of integration between ports and railways as a catalyst for its logistics development. David’s participation in this forum provided an excellent opportunity to share the knowledge accumulated by TYPSA and to contribute to the dialogue on the future of transport infrastructure and sustainable mobility in the region.
In October, another event in Las Palmas
TYPSA will take part in the 10th National Congress of the ATPYC (Technical Association of Ports and Coasts), to be held in Las Palmas from 6 to 8 October.
Our colleague Ignacio Navarro Martínez, from TYPSA Valencia, will present the paper “Carbon footprint: caissons vs. piles. A real-life case study”, in which he will analyse the carbon impact of both construction solutions based on a real-life case study.
The participation of our teams highlights TYPSA’s commitment to innovation, sustainability and technical excellence in the field of coastal and port infrastructure, contributing technical knowledge and experience to the debate on the challenges and opportunities that will shape the sector’s future. This further consolidates TYPSA’s position as a leading player in the sector at both national and international levels.
