Key facts

Study and analysis of 4 connection alternatives with different routes and mobile material, with the Diagonal-Surface Tramway alternative being selected based on the best score obtained both in the cost-benefit analysis and in the multicriteria analysis.

The full scope consists of the implementation of the tramline and the development of Avenida Diagonal between Plaza Francesc Macià and Plaza de las Glòries, over a length of about 4 km.

The first phase of work consisted of:

· Extension of the tramline from Glòries to Verdaguer, with metro connection.

· In Glòries, the tram enters the Park and connects to the existing network at the new metro — tram — bus interchange, in front of the Design Museum.

· The new development on these extensions involves a total conversion of public space, with the expansion of sidewalks, reduction of traffic lanes and an increase in green spaces.

The infrastructure, commissioned in 2024, represents a strategic step for mobility, facilitating the movement of some 24,000 daily passengers and contributing to the reduction of 2,000 vehicles in the central section of Diagonal Avenue.

The tramway incorporates a pioneering system without a catenary, with supply via a third lane, constituting the first of its kind in Spain.
