Key facts

Three basins: Akarçay (7,996 km2, 0.6 million inhabitants), Batı Akdeniz (21,014 km2, 1.2 million inhabitants) and Yeşilırmak (39,574 km2, 2.5 million inhabitants). Total area of 68,584 km2 (approximately 10 per cent of Turkey) and population of some 4.4 million inhabitants. 255 surface water bodies, 135 groundwater bodies and average annual resources of about 15,000 hm³ based on 1970-2016 time-series data.

Services

Basin plans to implement the Water Framework Directive, comprising socio-economic and water-use efficiency analysis in municipal, agricultural and industrial sectors. Stages include characterisation, key issues, proposed environmental objectives and programmes of necessary measures.
