Key facts

The aim is to improve river transport which, being the most widespread means of transport, is the only one capable of connecting important regions of the country.

The Programme includes the project for the rehabilitation or new construction of cargo and passenger landing stations, jetties and warehouses along the main corridor from the city of Chittagong (in the Bay of Bengal) to Ashunganj on the upper Meghna River, via Dhaka the country’s capital.

The work comprises new projects for 4 inland passenger ferry terminals, 2 inland cargo ports, 15 ferry terminals (3 of them in the Bay of Bengal) and 6 vessel shelters for use during storms.
