Client

SCWMT (State Committee for Water Management in Turkmenistan).

Year

2028

Construction budget

USD 5,430 million. Desalination plant USD 1,130 million. Supply network USD 3,500 million. Energy network USD 800 million.

Key facts

Desalination plant: total 1,200,000 m3/day for two qualities of water (drinking 1,057,535 m3/day and irrigation 142,765 m3/day). The plant comprises 5 seawater intake structures located 2.6 km offshore, and 3 outfall pipelines with an average length of 3.5 km. 6 storage tanks (4x 176,206 m3/unit tanks for drinking water and 2 71,400 m3/unit tanks for irrigation water).

Drinking water supply network to a total of 29 locations, with a double pipe totalling 1,568 km that combines steel pipe, with diameters between 2,032 and 1,016 mm and GFRP pipe with diameters between 2,500 and 700 mm, and secondary networks in HDPE with diameters between 355 and 110 mm. 6 pumping stations, with powers between 40 and 3.7 MW.

Power generation with 2 x 265 ± 5 MW gas turbines. Two 33 MW and 49.5 MW photovoltaic plants, using 50 MWh and 70 MWh battery energy storage systems, respectively.

Extension and refurbishment of 4 outdoor 220 kV single bus bar type air insulation substations (AIS). 220 kV gas-insulated transmission substation (GIS), 13 double circuit bays. Outdoor 220 kV/35 kV double busbar distribution air insulation substations (AIS).

220 kV 150 km 300 MVA overhead power transmission network. 80 km 35 kV distribution network provided via double circuit overhead cables between 2 and 50 MVA.

Energy and Water Smartgrid to control and manage water and energy generation, transport and distribution, together with 1,800 km fibre optic data and communications cable route.

The irrigation network consists of a single GFRP pipe with diameters between 1,600 and 900 mm and a total length of 409 km, and twin irrigation reservoirs with a capacity of 6,5 hm3/unit and a maximum water height of 14.4 m for the future irrigation of about 6,000 ha.

1,014 km road network, with new accesses and upgrade of existing roads.

Beneficiary population: 2.2 million inhabitants by 2045.
