Coastal road known as the Marginal Road
The Instituto Nacional das Estradas/National Roads Institute of São Tomé and Príncipe with financing from the European Investment Bank (EIB) and the Dutch state-owned company Invest International.

The 8.8 km coastal road runs from the International Airport along the shoreline of Lagarto and Ana Chaves bays to the outskirts of the coastal town of Pantufo.
This road plays a key role in the country’s social and economic development, especially in promoting tourism.
The project includes sea walls for coastal protection, beach regeneration, pedestrian footpaths and cycle lanes and the landscape design of the road’s margins.
Detailed design for the rehabilitation and upgrade of the road, coastal protection works and urban design and landscape integration.
Specific studies on maritime climate, wave propagation and climate change impact, and socio-environmental studies.
Preparation of tender documents for construction and construction supervision contracts and bid evaluation.
Coordination of contract management and financing processes.
Supervision of construction teams and of construction and socio-environmental management plans.
Operation and maintenance plan.
