In November 2025, the remodelled Palma de Mallorca seafront promenade was opened to the public. TYPSA participated as the author of the project design, in collaboration with a prestigious Barcelona-based architecture firm, as well as providing technical assistance to the project management team.
The project, promoted by the Balearic Islands Port Authority, aims to completely transform the promenade into a new urban space where the city and the sea meet, prioritising pedestrian and cyclist use over road traffic. The port’s functionality and the environmental quality of the surrounding area will also be improved.
The new promenade is designed as a large green corridor, with the planting of more than 2,300 new trees and the creation of 37,000 m² of landscaped areas, forming a 3.5 km long linear axis.
The overall objective of the redevelopment is to promote and facilitate the use of public transport and sustainable means of transport over motor vehicles, as well as to integrate and connect the port with the city’s neighbourhoods. Until now, these have been separated by heavy traffic, and thus use and activities on the seafront promenade will be enhanced.
The opening ceremony was attended by the Minister of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, the President of the Balearic Government, the Mayor of Palma and the President of the Balearic Port Authority.
The Palma seafront redevelopment project has been awarded a prize in the 2025 edition of the World Design Awards, presented by The Architecture Community (TAC).
