Key facts

The Plaza de las Glorias Catalanas has been transformed into a park, generating a green lung in the centre of the city of Barcelona

In the plaza, three main roads of the city converge in the form of green axes and itineraries for pedestrians: Diagonal Avenue, Meridiana Avenue and Gran Vía.

The 4,478m2 of green area house the 46 trees that already existed in this area, 472 newly planted trees and 23,840 shrubs spread over biodiversity areas, flower beds and rain gardens, which contribute to efficient water management of the space.

The park is comprised of:

– A sensory agora. A usable space of 1,000 m2 and surrounded by giant bamboos for cultural events.

– An immersion garden. A 1,292 m2 garden, with species with low water requirements, and which will give access to the Line 1 metro station.

– A shade pavillion. A multipurpose area of 668 m2 for activities and events in the shade.

– A recreation area for dogs. 760 m2

– Dynamic Node. An area of 1,968 m2 for children’s games.

– A water park. A space of 104 m2 that will be converted into an aquatic area for children.

– A viewpoint, bleachers and a green space. On the Llobregat side of the square, next to Gran Vía.

– The return of the sculpture El Meridià.
