DIGITAL CENSUS OF UNINHABITED SETTLEMENTS IN ARAGON

Client

Government of Aragon

Year

2025

Key facts

Nearly 400 uninhabited settlements spread across the three provinces of Aragon (Huesca, Teruel and Zaragoza), in a community of more than 47,700 km². An extensive territory, with low density and wide geographical dispersion, which complicates the location, documentation and systematic analysis of these centres.

The census seeks to preserve architectural, cultural and landscape heritage, to know the current state of settlements and to generate a structured information base to guide strategies for recovery, tourism promotion and territorial planning. It also reinforces awareness of the impact of rural depopulation.

The project combines georeferencing tools, drone flights and immersive technologies to document the historical, cultural and landscape value of these abandoned towns.
