This year\u2019s theme was \u201cChallenges, Resilience and Sustainability: The New Paradigm of Maritime Infrastructure\u201d. The Congress is one of the leading events for the port and coastal sector in Spain.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">TYPSA took part with the presentation \u201cCarbon footprint: caissons vs. piles. A real-life case study\u201d, presented by I\u00f1aki Navarro and Ruth Revilla. Drawing on a real project, the study compared the carbon impact of two common structural quay solutions: concrete caissons and piled structures.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-82851 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.typsa.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/ATPYC2_26-800x525.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"525\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.typsa.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/ATPYC2_26-800x525.jpg 800w, https:\/\/www.typsa.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/ATPYC2_26-1024x672.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.typsa.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/ATPYC2_26-768x504.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.typsa.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/ATPYC2_26.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">The study was supported by the BIM 6D methodology, which builds environmental information into the design model and makes it possible to quantify the carbon footprint of each option. The presentation showed how this comparison can help choose the structural type from the earliest design stages. It also set out the real limitations involved and opened a debate on whether the carbon footprint should be used as the sole selection criterion.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">The audience responded very positively to the presentation, as a current issue was addressed, the application of which requires an adequate analysis of the specifics of each design.
