Some of the proposed improvements include the rehabilitation of existing roads, including the main corridors, which present high levels of deterioration in certain sections.<\/p>\n<p>An example of such is the central corridor highway (T3) that connects the port of Dar es Salaam with neighbouring countries Rwanda, Burundi, Congo and Uganda, as part of the Improvement Project of the National Road Network, within the Transport Corridor Development Project (DCTP).<\/p>\n<p>Within this central corridor phase of work, the scope includes the 92 km section between Lusahunga and Rusumo, in the Kagera and Geita regions, near the Rwandan border.<\/p>\n<p>The implementation of the project is an important catalyst to reduce poverty and transport costs and stimulate economic growth in the area, in addition to serving as a key international route for Rwanda\u2019s export and import traffic, and public transport. Connections will be improved between areas with a wide variety of potential economic opportunities, such as agriculture, livestock, mining, fishing, and tourism.<\/p>\n<p>The project involves the rehabilitation and improvement of the road and verges along the entire length of the highway, through the following main actions:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Improvement of the existing road surface, through the formation of a new base and asphalt surface.<\/li>\n<li>Improved drainage by extending longitudinal drainage and improving existing elements.<\/li>\n<li>Improvement of road safety by reducing traffic speed in urban areas to ensure pedestrian safety.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The design will be reviewed and adapted to the World Bank\u2019s environmental and climate change safeguards.
