TYPSA has been awarded the contract to prepare the detailed design for runway and taxiway rehabilitation at King Khalid International Airport (KKIA) in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The airport, one of the largest in the world, is located 35 km from Riyadh and consists of five terminals and two runways providing international connections to major cities in the Middle East, Asia, Europe and the largest countries in America, such as the United States, Canada and Brazil. It caters for a total of 210,000 operations per year.<\/p>\n
The aim of the project is to refurbish and upgrade the pavements on the two existing runways, 15R-33L and 15L-33R, on taxiway A parallel to the secondary runway and on 30 lead on\/off taxiways, (taxiways A, G and H at the runway ends, and lead on\/off taxiways G1 to G7, A1 to A7 and H1 to H4). The project will maintain safety levels and optimise the operational efficiency of the airport.<\/p>\n
Designs will be prepared to demolish the existing pavement and for levelling, earthworks, new pavement foundations and pavement markings. A new FOD Detection System will also be designed and implemented at the airport. Runway End Safety Areas (RESAs), and the areas surrounding the taxiways to be rehabilitated, will all be upgraded.<\/p>\n

In addition, the project will rebuild the old Airfield Ground Lighting (AGL) ducts banks and study the redesign of Category II AGL on runways and approaches, and of all runway and taxiway signs.<\/p>\n
The airport is in the highest category on the ICAO international scale and each of its two runways is 4,205 m long and 60 m wide.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
