The goal is to reduce the amount of contaminated water that currently flows into Lake Titicaca and so improve its environmental conditions. More than one million people will benefit from better social and health conditions as a result.<\/p>\n<p>TYPSA has been engaged by the concessionaire to design Puno Wastewater Treatment Plant, the system\u2019s largest plant. The scope also includes 2 sub-lake effluent pipelines for Puno and Juli plants, with a total length of 2,700 metres, to discharge treated waters into Lake Titicaca, and 4 surface effluent pipelines for Juliaca, Ayaviri, Ilave and Moho plants, totalling a length of 6,350 m, to discharge waters into the watercourses in the lake\u2019s watershed.<\/p>\n<p>Puno Wastewater Treatment Plant is located at an altitude of 3,812 m, has an average design flow of 400 l\/s and features:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Water line: pre-treatment, primary decanting, activated sludge treatment for biological nitrogen removal, chemical reduction of phosphorus, secondary decanting and final effluent disinfection.<\/li>\n<li>Sludge line: primary and secondary sludge thickening, anaerobic digestion and sludge dewatering.<\/li>\n<li>Gas line: membrane gasometer, excess gas burner, engine for electric power generation and sludge heating.<\/li>\n<li>Odours generated during pre- and sludge treatment will also be treated.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Peru has granted the concession to build and operate a system comprising six wastewater treatment plants to OPETI &#8211; Operadora Ecol\u00f3gica Del Titicaca (Lake Titicaca Ecological Operator), with public-private partnership financing.
