Key facts

Flood protection measures project in the districts of Sullana and Bellavista, in the city of Sullana, covering a total area of 828 ha and affecting a population of nearly 300,000. Four main streams cut across the area: Cieneguillo, Bellavista, Cola de Alacrán and El Boquerón de Núñez.

The project includes the rehabilitation, adaptation and improvement of existing drainage structures, such as drains, channels, collectors, catchments, discharges, and retaining structures for flood control. New drainage elements will be designed to extend the system.

Other non-structural measures are also envisaged, such as preparing plans for the operation and maintenance of the drainage system, public awareness plans, solid waste collection system improvements and integration with structural measures for green and recreational areas, thereby enhancing their maintenance.

The project is part of the package of measures for comprehensive storm drainage solutions, included in the Comprehensive Plan for Reconstruction with Changes, which the Peruvian government is implementing in the framework of the ‘government to government’ (G2G) agreement with the United Kingdom.
