TYPSA has been working in Africa since the 1970s when it was involved in projects such as the design and construction supervision of the Al Izdihar Dam in Algeria. When AGRER became a member of the Group, it consolidated TYPSA’s profile with its own considerable experience in the region, which dates back to the end of the 1950s in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
The Africa Regional Management Area is structured in three Management Areas.
The Group has gained experience in Algeria, Angola, Benin, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Chad, Cote d’Ivoire, Djibouti, Gabon, Guinea Conakry, Equatorial Guinea, Madagascar, Mali, Mauritania, Morocco, Niger, Central African Republic, São Tomé and Príncipe, Senegal, Togo and Tunisia. A permanent area office operates in Tunisia.
Activity in these countries encompasses all TYPSA’s traditional business lines, namely transport infrastructure, architecture and buildings, water engineering and the environment.
TYPSA began its activity in English-speaking Africa in 1992 working in Kenya and Uganda. Since then the company has successfully completed more than 40 projects in numerous countries in the region, setting up a permanent office in Kenya in 2011.
Projects as technically diverse as the Lüderitz Drinking Water Supply Feasibility Study or the Tororo – Gulu Railway Line Rehabilitation, have been carried out in Namibia and Uganda, respectively, while others have been completed in Botswana, Ethiopia, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Ruanda, South Africa, Tanzania and Zambia.
Through TECNOFISIL, our Portuguese Group member, we have worked in the fields of civil engineering (roads and water) and urban development in Guinea-Bissau, Angola, Mozambique, São Tomé and Príncipe, and Malawi, where we have mainly focused on construction management and supervision. The designs and projects in these countries are prepared and managed from the office in Lisbon, Portugal.
