  • TYPSA analyses the risks associated with water in the investment portfolio of the German bank DEG

DEG (Deutsche Investitions- und Entwicklungsgesellschaft mbH) and WWF Germany have contracted TYPSA to participate in the analysis of the risks posed by the shortage of water affecting clients in the bank’s current portfolio of more than 300 clients in 80 countries. DEG finances companies in developing and transition countries, and the contract includes the development of a filter for new clients. Possible physical and geopolitical factors and risk arising from regulation and reputation need to be identified in order to determine and minimize the risk associated with an investment, especially in those river basins that are of special interest from the point of view of the conservation of biodiversity.

TYPSA is in charge of determining the risks associated with the different river basins and the administrative and socio-environmental water systems in the 80 countries, to facilitate DEG management decision making. In addition, all the information generated will be integrated in a Geographical Information System (GIS).

  • Tanger City Center Complex in Tangier

TYPSA has won the contract to carry out the Project and Construction Management of the Tanger City Center Complex in Tangier. (Morocco).

Views from the top of Tanger City Center’s towers and buildings overlook the Bay of Tangier and the Strait of Gibraltar. The complex is located in the heart of the city centre, close to Mohamed VI Avenue which is the hub of the city’s leisure and entertainment.

The design is the work of architects at Mimoun Mokhtar and Sensarchi’s offices, who have proven experience in similar complexes.

This iconic complex is on a 27,820 sq m plot, where over 242.000 sq m will be built, including a 59,926 sq m car park. The complex will comprise diverse uses such as residential, retail, offices and hotel, in towers between 7 and 22 storeys high that dominate the city’s skyline.

This excellent architectural design has generated a typology of versatile buildings, with highly complex structural schemes, which makes a great variety of configurations possible. Large glass panels on the façade provide high quality interior light, in line with sustainable development.

The experience TYPSA has already gained in this type of outstanding work in Morocco is very positive for the Integral Management of the Design and of the Construction, as is the company’s experience in iconic designs both in Spain and abroad.

During the initial phase TYPSA worked together with the design teams to apply “value engineering” and thus arrive at solutions that achieve optimum cost and schedule goals, while maintaining the quality of the design.

During the construction phase, TYPSA will carry out the Integral Construction Management, including services to control and monitor scheduling, the economic control of the investment, management of the tender process and contracting, coordination and management of the construction work in order to mitigate possible risks in the construction phase, and achieve the goals the Owner seeks to attain.

  • Quality makes the difference. TYPSA Group’s ISO 9001 certification satisfactorily renewed for 2008

The publication of the new version of the ISO 9001 standard for quality management systems coincided with the renewal date of our certification. The external audit for the renewal was therefore based on the new version of the ISO standard and was carried out earlier than in other years.

AENOR completed the audit at TYPSA and TECNOMA’s head offices in San Sebastian de los Reyes, and at the Barcelona, Malaga, Seville and INALSA offices.

The end result was highly satisfactory. We have renewed the certification for three years, without the auditors raising any objections at all (for the third year running). The long list of strong points the auditors highlighted is impressive. They consider the important number of internal audits that we carry out to be especially positive, both as a measuring instrument and as a means to circulate our procedures, distinguishing us very clearly from other companies in the sector.

They were also impressed by the great quantity of information considered in the revision and monitoring of the quality system, as well as our electronic filing system for both documents and designs. The audit points out that the system is clear, homogeneous and easily applicable to all our work.

  • Mularroya Dam

TYPSA is the leader of the Consortium that has won the consultancy contract for the control and monitoring of the works on the Mularroya dam, diversion dam and transfer pipeline (Zaragoza) worth a total of €8.513.995,31, with a 90-month deadline between 2009 and 2016.

The Works, with a total budget of €195.618.519,59 will improve the Bajo Jalon regulation system by creating a transfer tunnel from the river Jalon and a dam in the river Grio (the Mularroya Dam) to facilitate the irrigation of a total of 26,340 Ha, in Bajo Jalon. The average annual volume transferred will be nearly 60 Hm³.

The diversion dam is in the river Jalon, near Hoces del Jalon and is a 18,40 m high concrete gravity dam. The transfer tunnel connects the river Jalon to the river Grio, taking water from above the dam and releasing it into the end of the Mularroya reservoir. 2.90 m is the maximum height and width of the horseshoe section tunnel, which is 12.8 Km long.

The Mularroya dam is in the river Grio, a tributary of the River Jalon, that flows into the Jalon near Ricla, about 5 km downstream from the dam. The dam is in Paridera de Mularroya hence the name. The reservoir mainly affects the towns of Morata de Jalon and La Almunia de Dña. Godina.

The normal operation level is 477 m, the flooded area 463,1 Ha, and the volume 103,3 Hm³. The design is for a heterogeneous rock fill dam and the maximum height above the foundations is 89.50 m. The side channel spillway is on the left of the dam and comprises an overflow spillway, a reception basin, a telescopic discharge channel more than 200 m long and an energy dissipating basin.

The levels of the reservoir are:

    • Crest of the dam: 483,5 m
    • Normal operation level: 477.0 m
    • Flood operation level: 478.286 m
    • Extreme flood operation level: 479.345 m

Finally, two new roads need to be built as the construction of the Mularroya reservoir means that approximately 6 km of the N-IIa and 4 km of the local A-2302 road from Olvega to Santa Cruz de Grio (old Z-330) will be flooded.
