Expansion of Gijon’s Port
TYPSA is managing the Technical Assistance towards integral supervision of expansion works at the Port of Gijón: supervision, quality control, security and health coordination, and environmental monitoring. The location of the works, near the existing El Musel Port, with a seawall 3,017 meters long to the pier head, makes them a true challenge for maritime engineering.
The first part of the main dyke, from Cape Torres, is sloped and protected by means of concrete caissons weighing up to 200 tons. The northern Dyke, all the way to the pier head, is over 1,500 meters long, vertical, and made out of reinforced-concrete caissons 49.95 meters in length, 32.01 meters in breadth, and 32.25 meters tall. The length of the northern wharf, also made out of caissons, is 1,250 meters and its width is 410m.
The project’s model ship is a 230,000 DWT bulk carrier, 325 meters long and with a 20 meter draft. |
Port facilities at Punta Langosteira
TYPSA manages in A Coruña the Technical Assistance towards Controlling Construction Works for the New Port Facilities at Punta Langosteira, with a contract of 7M€, an investment budget over 500M€ and a completion deadline for 2011.
The future port’s seawall configuration, exposed to the storms that hit the Galician coast, make these works a milestone because of their uniqueness in maritime engineering.
The seawall is sloped, 3,354 meters long to the pier head, made out of 5 caissons 28.40 meters long. The wharf within the seawall boundary is 921.5 meters long and made out of 18 caissons 51.10 meters long and 20.50 tall. The baffle wall, sloped, is 579 meters long. The resulting esplanade area is of 143.5 Ha. |
