Ricardo Mendioroz Jauge
One of the fields of activity in which TYPSA has a greater experience and offers a higher specialization is the technical assistance, control and construction supervision to all types of civil works.

Today, the company has a large team of over 200 professionals that are specialized in supervising construction works in Spain. More than 40 members of this team assemble a wide experience as Unit Manager of important construction supervision assignments.

UIC GAUGE CONNECTION BETWEEN ATOCHA AND CHAMARTIN STATIONS IN MADRID

TYPSA completed this highly significant design for the Spanish High Speed Rail Network and is now carrying out the construction supervision.

A 7 km long TBM bored railway tunnel will connect Atocha and Chamartin stations (Madrid) in UIC gauge. The entire section goes through the town centre, starting near Atocha station’s historic façade and ending at the north end of Chamartin station.

With a diameter of 11.48 m it will be able to accommodate two UIC gauge railway tracks. The maximum design speed is 120 km/h therefore it has not been necessary to take into account the piston effect. The overburden of the tunnel is not deep compared to the anticipated 11.48 m diameter, the maximum overburden being 48 m and 35 – 40 m on average.

There are already several underground metro and rail infrastructures in the vicinity and the position of 8 metropolitan lines currently in operation have been taken into account in the geometrical layout.

Along the route there are areas with a high density of plants and an important ecological value. The line crosses below the Botanical Garden at a depth of 38 m, with the Retiro Park on the right. The railway line will also pass 31m under the architecturally important Puerta de Alcalá monument.

PHASE I OF THE PROJECT TO INTEGRATE THE RAILWAY IN THE CITY OF LOGROÑO

The works comprise the construction of the underground infrastructure on a 1,800 m stretch of the Castejón-Bilbao railway line, under Logroño city centre. The project also includes the construction of the Intermodal Passenger Terminal, and all the provisional rail measures needed to guarantee the feasibility of the construction process.

The section is approximately 2,995 m long. The most significant features are: a new geometrical layout of the line; construction of the rail infrastructure under cover; the new Logroño passenger station (designed by architects Abalos-Herreros) comprising a hall on the ground floor and an underground platform area; an underground car park providing 600 parking spaces; rail superstructure (tracks, electrification and signalling and communications systems); tunnel utilities not directly related to the railway;  urban development of the area  above the rail infrastructure. The existing rail facilities and services on the stretch affected by the works and in operation in the previous phase will be dismantled and more than 30 utilities will be relocated.

The contract is for 40 months, the construction is to be carried out by SACYR, SAU for €136 M.
